Submersion and Breath

Using principles from the Natina Swim Teaching Progression, learn how to teach submersion and breath control to young children. These skills make up the foundation of any effective swim teaching method and are among the first abilities taught to new swimmers.  Upon completing this course, instructors will be able to use a large variety of techniques for teaching submersion and breath control that fit seamlessly into a lesson plan. Instructors will know how to adapt their teaching of submersion and breath to the needs of any individual child and feel confident teaching these topics so that children will quickly learn and progress.

Teaching Babies

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends swimming be taught to children as early as 1 year old. This course will enable instructors to keep up with the rising demand for early childhood swim lessons. Using principles from the Natina Swim Teaching Progression, instructors will learn techniques and activities for introducing babies (age 4 months to 2 years) to the water while at the same time learning to manage parent expectations. Instructors will learn techniques for safely handling babies in and out of the water, performing gentle and safe submersions, and managing natural emotional responses.
