March 25, 2022 — REDDING, CA — Swim Foundations is joining with community partners to host a “dry” swim and water safety lesson at Rare Air Trampoline Park in Redding in celebration of Week of the Young Child.

On Friday, April 8th, at 11:30 a.m., Swim Foundations will host a fun and engaging “dry” swim and water safety lesson for kids ages 0-5. Many basic learn-to-swim skills can be introduced out of the water, and these will be the focus of this unique out-of-water learning experience for families with young kids. These include taking a breath and closing the mouth, straight-leg kicking, following instructions, and most importantly, asking permission to enter the pool before jumping in.

Each participating family will also take home some fun educational goodies. An introduction to the Water Watcher program and a Water Watcher Badge, used to designate one responsible adult to supervise children’s water activities, will go home with every family. Participants will also receive an Everybody Learns to Swim Coloring & Activity Booklet, a Read, Write, Swim! bookmark, and a book, courtesy of First 5 Shasta.

“I came up with the idea for this event while watching my daughter play at Rare Air. I had recently done this type of ‘dry’ swim lesson for her preschool and it was a great success. The kids loved it, and we got a report from a parent that his son, who had previously had a severe fear of the water due to a near drowning at the lake, had put his face in during bath time, blew bubbles, and came up smiling!” says Nina Natina, owner of Swim Foundations.

What is Week of the Young Child?

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration of young children that takes place every April in Shasta County and in communities across the nation. WOYC recognizes how the early years of childhood form a foundation for children’s success in school and in life. A new collection of events and activities is available each year for children, families, and all community members to enjoy. Click to see the full WOYC calendar for April 2-9, 2022.
